Ryan J. DonovanDirector of the News function in Corporate Communications, Hewlett Packard
Donovan has been involved in many key initiatives for the $100BN company. Among them, the appointment of a new CEO and President; the $4.5BN acquisition of Mercury Interactive; and, serving as one of two principal spokespeople during the Board leak investigation crisis of September 2006.
Prior to HP Corporate, Donovan spent nearly two years in HP’s Technology Solutions Group (TSG), a $31BN unit that serves corporate and SMB customers. In 2003, He began his HP career as Director of PR for HP Services, managing a corporate positioning program for Ann Livermore, EVP. He eventually ran all AR and PR for TSG before being recruited to Corporate Communications in March 2005.
Prior to HP, Donovan spent nearly 14 years in the PR agency world, serving most recently as Associate Director of Ketchum’s Global Technology Practice and new business development leader for Ketchum West. Before Ketchum, he spent four and a half years at Text 100 in San Francisco, starting as San Francisco GM, growing that office from 6 to 55 people during the technology boom. He helped win several key clients including IBM and during his tenure as GM, no member of the agency team left the company to join another agency.
Donovan joined Text 100 from Ketchum Thomas, where he led portions of the Sun Microsystems account and pitched more than 250 companies during his tenure. He spent the first six years of his career in the Chicago market, working for Bozell Inc. (now Weber Shandwick), Kemper Lesnik and Golin Harris.
He is a President-elect of the Silicon Valley chapter of PRSA 2008, holds a B.S. degree in Journalism from the University of Iowa and did graduate work at the City University of London, London UK. He resides in Woodside, California.
