The Health Trust is focusing on three priority objectives: Obesity prevention through healthy nutrition and physical activity, Healthy aging and Promoting equal opportunities for health and wellness within our diverse community. Over the last 10 years, The Health Trust has provided over $100 million of benefit to the community through program services and grant making activity.

The Health Trust is seeking an exceptional individual to serve as Director of Strategic Communications, directing the communications efforts of The Health Trust and inspiring key partners and community groups to focus on policy advocacy for the public's health. This demanding and rewarding position with the opportunity shape how the Santa Clara County community responds to key public health challenges in the coming decade and beyond.

The Director of Strategic Communications is responsible for communicating the vision and goals of The Health Trust to the community, with a focus on engaging and motivating community groups as they form their policy and program goals to keep them in alignment with The Health Trust's overall vision of community-based wellness and prevention; ensures that all communications of The Health Trust support key strategic goals including a primary focus on policy advocacy goals; plays a key role in the creation of potential community projects, helping them focus on strategic communication for policy change; manages other communications efforts including PR and marketing, but maintains a primary focus on communications for health policy advocacy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary role will be as a "champion" for the policy change approach to public health promotion in the community. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in public speaking and working with diverse group, from public health professionals to youth, on a range of public health issues.

Responsible for translating the organization's overall mission into strategic communications that support relevant policy advocacy goals.
Lead the communications team (staff and consultants) in delivering both proactive and responsive communications to support the strategic goals of the organization, including:

  • Leading media advocacy efforts (framing key messages, maintaining an appropriate presence on local editorial pages via op-eds and letters to the editor, and generating news coverage);
  • Developing skills-building materials for community groups to help shape their own communications efforts;
  • Planning community recognition events;
  • Developing on line communications and a robust website;
  • Creating and disseminating newsletter;
  • And supporting PR and marketing efforts.
